The Team

DAVE JOHANNAS, AIA, NCARB

Dave has over 25 years of experience in architecture and interior projects that encompass many innovations in urban design such as mixed-use, high-end residential and retail, with a particular interest in historic preservation and adaptive re-use. With both public and private sector clients, he brings modern trends as well as his own personalized design philosophy to each project.

SCOTT O. CORWIN, ASSOC. AIA, PARTNER

Although he started his career as a Manhattan stockbroker, after moving to Richmond and working construction, Scott was inspired to earn a master’s in architecture. He has been with our company since its inception in 2000 and here he seeks to integrate rationality and meaning into efficient designs. Scott also works on the boards of the Princeton Association of Virginia and the AIA Richmond Chapter.

ANDY SCUDDER, AIA, LEED AP

Andy’s passion is creating and influencing the places where communities play, live, work and come together. Authenticity, harmony and efficiency are values that he incorporates in every project. He considers the client’s needs and wants as well as their inspirations to create beautifully balanced designs. He has volunteered with the James River Green Building Council Design Competition and was the President of the Museum District Association.

DOUGLASS C. KIEFFNER,  AIA

Beginning his career at a large, multi-disciplined firm in Wichita, Kansas gave Doug a wide knowledge of building types and systems, but by far his favorite to work with are historic renovations in urban settings. He enjoys the challenge of working in an existing structure and within the urban fabric. Doug has also chaired his neighborhood’s real estate committee and been involved in the Richmond Neighborhoods in Bloom program.

ANNE DURKIN, ASSOC. AIA

Anne has been practicing architecture for over 25 years and what continues to resonate for her are the people and community that influence our built environment, and the critical need to maintain a healthy planet to sustain us all.  Her approach to design is to be sensitive to scale and material and to consider how innovation, form, space and detail can help create sustainable and beautiful spaces.  She enjoys that creative challenge.

NATHAN C. MARCH, INTERN ARCHITECT

Nathan has always had an interest in architecture. From an early age he has been involved in the arts and architecture is what brought it all together for him. The quote “Space is the breath of art.” by Frank Lloyd Wright has always been what Nathan aspires to create through his design.

Nathan has received his Bachelors of Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and joined Johannas Design Group in the summer of 2015. In his spare time he pursues music as a percussionist, watercolor painting, and jewelry designing.

DANIEL P. WASSUM, INTERN ARCHITECT

Born and raised in Virginia, Daniel is passionate about creating authentic spaces aesthetically rooted in their surrounding region and culture. After receiving his Bachelors of Architecture from UNC-Charlotte in 2011, Daniel began his career in Williamsburg, Virginia where he worked on a variety of projects including residential, retail, and commercial design within the context of the historic city. Joining Johannas Design Group in the summer of 2016, Daniel pursues the challenge of creating design that reflects the city of Richmond and fosters its sense of community. In his spare time he enjoys sketching, playing music, and sampling the region’s burgeoning craft beer scene.

ASHLEIGH N. BREWER, INTERN ARCHITECT

Ashleigh started her education in the field of engineering, upon completion of that degree she was motivated to pursue a career in architecture. She aspires to create sustainable architecture that positively impacts individual clients as well as present and future communities.
Ashleigh received her Masters of Architecture from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and joined the firm in 2016. In her free time she enjoys traveling the world.
