Sterling Row

THE DETAILS

Johannas Design Group is dedicated to the city of Richmond and the infill opportunities that exist throughout its neighborhoods.  Our goal is to provide architecture, which is authentic to the time in which we live yet responds to the existing urban fabric.

Sterling Row is a unique eight-unit residential enclave located in Shockoe Bottom, Richmond’s historic trade district.  The design of the gateway from 19th Street into the courtyard is derived from prototypical 18th and 19th century warehouses.
The detailing of the front façade reflects the district vernacular, while the rear façades respond to the residential character of the adjacent historic double-houses and the Adam Craig House.

Sterling Row’s interiors are generous, open and dramatic.  Rooms are defined by angled walls, open staircases, and changes in floor elevation.
Sterling Row’s arched entry and courtyard create a sense of arrival and place. The spaces are flooded with natural light and enhanced by views of historic houses and the city skyline.
